From Sheep to Geese

Working dogs are not like pets, they are like coworkers or farm hands. Sometimes we really click with our working dogs and other times the teamwork is strained. We have recently had three working dogs move on to a different job and we wanted to share!

Quinn was the first working dog we got for the farm but after a while we discovered her personality and Harry’s just did not mesh. So we found her a new job! She went with Cathy from Goose Dogs For Sale to be trained in geese control. These dogs will run geese off of airports, college campuses, and golf courses, etc. in a humane way. Their consistent annoyance and pushing to the geese will encourage them to move on and find a new home where they aren’t a bother. Quinn spent a few months with Cathy where she learned the difference between herding sheep and chasing geese, including following commands while swimming! She was then sent to Wichita, Kansas where she is the main employee for Goose Troopers, run by Chris. Quinn is a local star and treated like royalty by Wichita State University, where she runs the geese almost daily. She is enjoying being a one on one dog and seems to be loving her new job!

We were so happy with how Quinn was trained and placed by Cathy that we wanted to see if she would train Turk and Jack. Turk was my working dog and we just did not work well together. His high energy made me panic and my panic made him nervous. Jack was the last puppy from Lola’s litter and while we love him, he was never going to be anyones main working dog on our farm. Cathy was excited to take both new projects on and they just left for her training facility this past weekend! We are excited to see where they will be placed once their training is over and can’t wait to see them both thrive at a new job.

Both Chris and Cathy are on social media. Check out Goose Troopers on Facebook to see Quinn at work! Check out Goosedogs for sale on Facebook or instagram to see Cathy train Turk and Jack!
