Winding Creek Farms

Hey, New Followers!

We have had a lot of new followers recently so I thought I would introduce ourselves!

My name is Katie, and together with my husband, Harry, and parents, Martin and Kris, we run Winding Creek Farms. We all moved to south central Kentucky in the spring of 2017 to start this farm. In those four short years we have grown a ton! We started with 144 ewes and 225 acres and are now at about 500 ewes and manage about 600 acres. There have been many mistakes along the way and we are always learning. We are always willing to share our knowledge and what works for us - so don’t be afraid to reach out!

Livestock guardian dogs are the protectors of our sheep. We have eleven; Hoss, Willow, Zero, Gracie, Isla, Sasha, Lola, Pistol, Belle, Franklin, and Bailey.

We use border collies to herd our sheep. These dogs are priceless and are our best tools at times. Harry also trains border collies and has a few openings for dogs to train this spring.

Spring lambing started about five days ago and hasn’t let up since! We have had 73 lambs out of 40 ewes and have many more to go.

Lambing always means a few bottle lambs. If a ewe has triplets we always pull one lamb and make it a bottle baby. Others become bottle babies if mom doesn’t have enough milk or the lamb is struggling. We have had so much interest in our bottle lambs this year and we are thankful for it! Be sure to follow the farm on Facebook and Instagram to be the first to know when we have more available.
