Canine and Feline Spotlight

Canine and Feline Spotlight

The farm is all about sheep. The ewes, rams, and lambs are our bread and butter and what we share about the most. So I thought it would be fun to spotlight a few of our other animals. Some have jobs and others are just livin’ the life.

LOLA

IMG_4934.JPG

Lola is one of our working dogs and the mother of the puppies. She is always ready to work and runs to the buggy as soon as she is let out. Lola loves people and despises sheep. She is very serious when it comes to working and does not like to play.

QUINN

IMG_3304.JPG

Quinn may not be the fastest but she’s our most reliable working dog. Quinn is eager to please everyone and always seems to be smiling. She loves cuddling (like most Border Collies) and would sit in your lap all day if you’d allow it. Quinn is 100% Harry’s dog but she’s warming up to being put to work by others. Harry has put a lot of time and effort into training Quinn and making her the dog she is today.

TURK

IMG_4938.JPG

Turk is the newest addition to the pack and is just as crazy as he looks in the picture. He came from Texas and is a work in progress. Harry is working hard with Turk to train him and he is doing well. He loves to play with the puppies and is still not sure of buggy rides.

JACK

IMG_4937.JPG

Jack is one of the puppies and is an absolute wild man. He loves carrying things around like shoes, sticks, and sheep poop. Jack has been the slowest pup to pick up sheep work but he still has a lot of time and is doing well.  Jack would rather chew on something than play with the others and he is always ready for his dinner.

SHAE

IMG_4935.JPG

Shae is the only female puppy we kept and is incredibly headstrong. She likes to do things fast and her way. She is eager to work sheep, just like her mom, and is hard to shut down once she has started. Shae loves to play with her brothers, Morley, and Turk, even though she always ends up on the bottom of the pile. She is a Houdini, once again just like her mother, and can escape her 6ft tall kennel to get to the sheep.

ABE

IMG_4939.JPG

Abe is the sweetest and most kind hearted of all the pups. He wants to please everyone and loves belly rubs. Abe is very serious when he starts to work the sheep and is good about moving slowly rather than running at everything. Abe is the biggest of the puppies and has a lot of fur, just like his dad.

BEN

IMG_4943.JPG

At 14 years old, Ben is the old man of the pack. He comes from Wales and is a champion trial dog. He gets to live out the rest of his days here on the farm. Ben loves when he gets to work the sheep and has the longest outrun you will ever see. Sometimes his selective hearing can be frustrating but he is so sweet and easy to love.

MAGGIE

IMG_4940.JPG

Maggie is semi-retired, along with Ben. She spends most of her days laying in the sun on our porch or running from house to house through the woods. With her bad hip, she can’t work a lot but still loves when we bring her along. Maggie is the sheriff of the pack and doesn’t understand why the puppies like to play.

MORLEY

IMG_4619.JPG

Morley is my not so mini- mini Aussie. She loves playing with ALL the dogs and romping through the mud and water.  She believes the cats are her best friends and thinks she can work the sheep as long as Maggie is there to back her up.

CHARLEY

IMG_4941.JPG

Charley is an Australian Shepherd and lives with Martin and Kris. She is obsessed with tennis balls and couldn’t care less about the sheep. Charley will play fetch all day long if you’re willing to throw the ball! She is enjoying her time on the farm with the freedom to run and smell all the smells.

TAYLOR

IMG_4942.JPG

Taylor is charley’s half sister (same mom!) and the most photogenic dog you will ever see. She loves to bark and run and will go after the sheep if Harry gets her going. Taylor is a sweetheart and has the softest fur of any dog.

ABBY

IMG_4945.JPG

Abby is queen of the garage and an expert mouser. She loves to lay on the Jeep after then engine has been warmed up from driving. Abby is very friendly and tolerates the dogs, except for Quinn and Lola.

BITTY

IMG_4946.JPG

I rescued Bitty kitty from the streets of Tompkinsville when she was extremely small. She lives in the tack room/lambing facility and does a great job of keeping the mice away. Bitty loves to stalk the chickens, is best friends with Morley, and likes to sneak in the buggy to go for a ride when Harry isn’t looking.

DORA

IMG_4944.JPG

Dora lives at Kris and Martin’s and is the ruler of the house. She likes to lounge around and bother Taylor. Dora is an expert jumper and a total grumpy cat.

Our dogs and cats help us keep this place running and we love them all, job or no job. We would love to see your dogs and cats and hear about them - feel free to share in the comments!
