Baby Donkey

Baby Donkey

It’s been monsoon season here in Kentucky for what feels like the entire month of March. Makes us a little glad that we have not had more lambs; downpours and lambs just don’t mix well.

But, with another person off the farm for the weekend it is only fitting that we end it with a birth right when they return home. Martin was up in Michigan visiting family (Happy Birthday, Grandpa!!) and pulled in to see a donkey giving birth. This was a surprise to us all! We purchased the donkeys a little less than a year ago and didn’t think either of them looked pregnant but good ole Honkey pulled one over on us.

It’s amazing to see animals this way. The babies get up so quickly because they know if you don’t get up you won’t make it, and the moms just go right to work cleaning the baby off. Truly an amazing thing to watch. Someday we will get this timing thing down and have people out to watch this right along with us. What a great way to end the weekend, and a rainy month.
