We need a bigger pen!
For the last several months we have noticed that every time we bring sheep to the working pen we never have enough room. We either need an extra way to sort, or end up having to move a group of sheep out of the way to let another through. It just wasn’t working for the number of sheep we have. So we expanded our pen and working area!
We were able to use all cedar posts that we had cut from the farm ourselves and that really brought the cost down. We found a company to make our gates for the lowest price we have ever paid and got a deal on the box fencing. In total we spent about $1,000 to turn our existing one pen, one alleyway working area into a four pen, two alleyway working area.
We can now work bigger groups of sheep at a time and don’t have to do so much juggling of where to put sheep.
We were also able to put our scale in line with our push tub, head catch, and the rest of our working system. This created a smoother way to weigh our weaned lambs and an overall better working system.
We may hit road blocks here and there but overall we continue to grow and improve every day!
We are all thankful for our farm and all that we are able to do with it. Happy Thanksgiving from our farm to yours!
